What is a Panorama?

A panorama is a special type of photograph. It allows the viewer to virtually stand in the middle of an area, be it a room or a piece of beautiful scenery, and look around. They are able to see everything that a person actually standing on that spot would see.

For a demonstration, click the image to the right. This leads to a panoramic shot of the Crystal Showroom at the Waterford Crystal Factory in Waterford. It will take a minute or so to load, as it first has to download an applet to display the image. After viewing the first image, however, subsequent panoramas are much quicker, as the applet has already downloaded.

We use iPIX^® software to produce our panoramas, as it is the simplest and quickest way to produce them. Check them out at their website, http://www.ipix.com

Why use a Panorama?

It can be very hard to describe to someone what a room or view looks like, even with the aid of a few professional photographs. What better way to show someone the view you want to see, than to allow them to virtually 'be' there?

A panorama provides the ability to show someone on the other side of the world, exactly what the view from the front of your guesthouse is like, how your shop floor is arranged, or what a scenic beauty spot really looks like. All the way round!

How Panoramas are produced

We would come out to the location for the shoot with all the equipment neccessary. Please note, however, that we are located in Waterford, and it can take some time to arrange a trip if you are quite far away. Please also note that there would be a minimum of 3 panoramas shot.

We take the pictures using a digital camera and a special lens. We will show you a preview of what the panorama will look like on a laptop. When you are satisfied, we would then produce the final version.

At this point, we would then burn all the panoramas onto a CD, along with documentation and sample HTML files to enable you or your webmaster to easily incorporate the panoramas into your existing website.

We can also arrange to host the panoramas for you, if you need that service.
